As a Baby Boomer, I can say that tagging two decades worth of people with a label and somehow expecting that label to accurately describe the entire group's views, beliefs, motivations, and actions ... that's a mistake at best.

People are individuals. Maybe more people in certain ages hold one view versus another, but it is unlikely that *all* of them do so.

Yes, the things that happen in the world around people affect them. So for example "9/11" happened while #sonTwo and #Daddy_A were in middle school. 2nd son's school actually pulled the kids into an assembly room and put the news on for a couple of hours. So they watched the 2nd plane strike a tower and they watched the towers collapse repeatedly.

People in #sonOne's age group did not have that. He was already out of school when the "Jonesboro":{https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998_Westside_Middle_School_shooting} and "Columbine":{https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbine_High_School_massacre} school massacres happened. Thus, he even missed out on the demand for police departments to provide on-campus school resource officers to local school districts.

That said, I don't think everyone born in any of those years is the same as all (or even most) others that age in any significant aspect.1117542http://activitystrea.ms/schema/1.0/post2023-11-29T17:39:31+00:002023-11-29T17:39:31+00:00http://activitystrea.ms/schema/1.0/personhttps://nu.federati.net/user/2lnxw48a1Main account. I mentioned that I'd purchased "Raku Fundamentals" and that so far, it seems to be written for someone who uses programming languages a lot more consistently than I do.

#Raku is a descendant of #Perl (same creator; indeed Raku was originally Perl6, but by the time it was released, most people were aware it was a completely different language, so they eventually changed its name).

I've pretty much not used Perl in twenty years (I used it once in a project at work about 18 years ago, as part of a report processing pipeline, alongside #Python, Windows #Batch, and #KiXtart), so the demo programs seem to have purposes that are too large for language starters. I feel like it is supposed to glue itself onto "oh, I know that from Perl!" memories, but I don't remember Perl.

What I remember most was that I liked it a lot when I learned it (college class), but as soon as I started trying to use it in real life I found that "there's more than one way to do it" equals "write once, read never". I used it in that pipeline because it excels at what I needed it to do (text processing) which helped take an ever-growing log file and find relevant events from the past day ... and because I knew the script would never need to be edited.1117326http://activitystrea.ms/schema/1.0/post2023-11-17T08:57:41+00:002023-11-17T08:57:41+00:00http://activitystrea.ms/schema/1.0/personhttps://nu.federati.net/user/2lnxw48a1Main account. The answer is he currently likes what his older brother likes, but he’s less emotionally invested in those topics.

The exception is TV. GS3 likes “Bluey” and GS4 only likes “Octonauts”. And colors: GS3 likes blue and GS4 likes red. #GS5, at age 1 hasn’t shown any preference yet, but I’ve been looking for clothing in green for now.1116677http://activitystrea.ms/schema/1.0/post2023-10-20T06:58:58+00:002023-10-20T06:58:58+00:00http://activitystrea.ms/schema/1.0/personhttps://nu.federati.net/user/2lnxw48a1Main account. The last time I touched a firearm was when I was around 14 and an adult gang member came barging into the family home. I picked up the family pistol and pointed it at him. He realized that I really would shoot him if he did not retreat. He backed out of the door and exited the property.

After the fact, I determined that I did not want to deal with the after-incident emotions related to possibly killing someone. (I should note that the gang member didn't learn from this experience. He tried again at least twice. One of my brothers likewise grabbed the gun and sent the guy fleeing both times.)

Many decades later, there's no "let $BROTHER handle it". If a situation arose in which an intruder threatened my family members' lives, it would be up to me. I've been ready for years, but yesterday I decided to take some actions to prepare.

Both #sonOne and #sonTwo were once shooting instructors.
