   Is it really that big an inconvenience for people to SU into root, do what you need to do, and then EXIT from the root shell? I guess it is, or sudo would not exist ... but convenience almost always comes with security costs.

      I either su to the root shell or open a non-gui console and login there as root, being careful to log out when done.
