Opinion on Xbox Series S so far.
From a graphical perspective, this is the least inspiring generation change I've seen so far (and no, it's not due to getting the weakest console). When we switched from NES to SNES graphical difference was immediately apparent. This carries across all gens to some extent, but on this one, you have to go full on Digital Foundry and fuck around with a magnifying glass counting pixels to make out a graphical difference. I do like the intensified focus on framerate, sure, but well optimized games could still look as good in movement to a normal non autistic person on last gen as your average current gen stuff (compare Doom Eternal for instance; "HURR, BUT IT'S ONLY 900p ON LAST GEN!" no one normal cares, in movement it looks the same unless you obsess over that stuff; compare to every single generation change up to now).
Having menus that don't feel like dogshit to scroll through is a massive boost to user experience. It's hard to quantify, but I'm certain that this will lead to more gaming, because actually getting to a game doesn't feel like pulling teeth (menus on my PS4 Slim by the end were so painful to scroll through). Also very much appreciate the quick loading times. Maybe it's the games I've played, it's not nearly as "instant" as I was led to believe, but it's still so much more under control than it was for last gen.
From a games perspective, I'm baffled to be honest. This is the next gen that feels least like a next gen I've seen. I don't know how I feel about it, but it just feels like another half step, mostly because of how Microsoft is presenting the games in the store. You have Xbox, Xbox 360 games, Xbox One games and Xbox Series S|X games, all just kind of thrown together. Xbox and Xbox 360 have a little tab on them to show what they are, but Xbox One games don't have anything on them. Series S|X games have an additional logo next to them saying "Optimized for Series S|X". Why are Xbox One games "normal" and all others have to have an indicator of what gen they're from?
Anyway, I'm complaining a lot but the UX improvements are good and it's doing what I want it to do for now, at a reasonable price (people are selling last gen consoles for around that price!)

Got the SeS instead of SeX because I already have a platform for high end gaming (PC), but I wanted something for multiplayer as there's going to be someone else living in my apartment soon.
