> New research does link the creative thought process and capacity for highly focused work so often seen in founders with depressive thinking.

> By all accounts the opening of a dialogue on the mental health issues of entrepreneursβa possible predisposition to depressive thinking and the insurmountable pressure of attempting to reach superstardom by 30βis a step in the right direction.
This is the first time I hear the term "depressive thinking". Does it mean thought patterns likely to induce depression, or does it mean depression-induced thought patterns? Partial cause, signal symptom or both? Can depressive thinking be addressed directly? Is there a causality or overlap between depressive thinking and suicide ideation?

Thus far in the article (via the one above) doesn't explicitly say "depressive thinking", but the quote below seems to be the core of it and it's presented as a thought pattern that can form both a cause of depression and a symptom.
Swedish has the verb "Γ€lta"; If you Γ€lta on a topic that means you repeatedly reflect on it in a non-constructive way, your mind stuck in a rut. It has the connotation of only hurting yourself and those you expose to it.
Depression's Upside is a terrible headline and I think it frames the whole thing in a harmful way, but the article so far β I'm halfway through β is worth a read:

Andrews and Thomson struck up an extended conversation on the evolutionary roots of depression. They began by focusing on the thought process that defines the disorder, which is known as rumination. (The verb is derived from the Latin word for βchewed over,β which describes the act of digestion in cattle, in which they swallow, regurgitate and then rechew their food.) In recent decades, psychiatry has come to see rumination as a dangerous mental habit, because it leads people to fixate on their flaws and problems, thus extending their negative moods.

> The Romantic poets took the veneration of sadness to its logical extreme and described suffering as a prerequisite for the literary life. As Keats wrote, βDo you not see how necessary a World of Pains and troubles is to school an intelligence and make it a soul?β
I learned of this meme very early on and jokingly remarked to my parents before I was even 12 that if I never became a famous author it would be their fault for giving me such a functional family and happy childhood.

One of my university professors, who taught various business classes, was self-acknowledged depressed ... and discussed the need for business leaders to slow down a little so they could give their own mental health the attention it requires.
I haven't thought much about it, but looking back, he seemed to slip the mental health angle into every subject.
Maybe this is something that is well known to those who know where to look.
