@Tobias well, that upgrade broke the system and it didn't make it to the next log-in screen. I gave up and installed Fedora. It worked like a charm. Activating iBus and Sinhala ibput was just two clicks away \o/

@Tobias the iBus version you get on Debian is the problem. It doesn't work right for Sinhala typing.... :-(

@cwebber I have to admit that I have no idea how these things are made and decided. They ditched scim in favour of iBus. Nothing seems to be going in the right direction ever since. As far as those who use computers to write in Sinhala are concerned, GNU/Linux is a on a decline.

@cwebber btw, upgrade mishap was my mistake, not Trisquel's fault :-)

@cwebber at this rate, it will take years to get this fixed in Debian (most likely we will have to wait till they release the next version).

@cwebber From what I see, this is a problem with iBus, and I suspect it has been half-fixed and the iBus version available in Fedora manages to work relatively better, in some text editors (gedit) and word processors (LibreOffice). But Fedora too fails when I try to use emacs, or Fade In.
