@tooticky A better thing for them to do would be to find good things being done by local people and businesses and highlight the positive stuff happening in the area. It'd be helpful in bringing in much-needed investment and tourism.

The constant feed of police and crime and shock stories will only serve to put people off coming and give the area an undeserved poor reputation. But it's cheap to simply rewrite police press releases and court reports as clickbait.

It's quite a nice area. It's not the hell hole you'd expect if you got all your news from the local newspaper.

Tonight's top three stories in our local newspaper:

"YouTube rapper sparked mass 20-man brawl outside McDonald's by hitting people with yellow cleaning cone"

"Drunk man spat at police officer after he was sprayed with CS gas"

"Woman smashed up mum's gold Samsung phone with hammer and said: 'I'm not bloody sorry'"

What has happened to local news? Why this lurid drivel?

@priryo Scotland is relatively lucky in that it has a well-resourced BBC national station, Radio Scotland, whose programming is not terrible.

England has 40 little BBC local stations with poor quality presenters and very little to say most of the time, so they resort to verbal diarrhoea of the sort I talk about on here. Partridge Lives!

@priryo This is the dodgy bit of routing. Instead of "turn left" it says "turn right" and then expects the driver to make an impossible manoeuvre around the junction...

@tooticky I think it is just a particularly tone deaf radio presenter. I don't listen that often, just had it on for traffic updates while driving.

Today's local radio phone-in topic: "The people of Manchester adapted the Oasis song Don't Look Back In Anger after last year's bomb. But is it time we *did* look back in anger?"

I am used to the local radio station having only a tenuous grip on reality, but that literally doesn't make any sense.

How do you submit data updates to #OsmAnd? It had me turning right at a no right turn in Huddersfield earlier, and got very confused at one junction where it had me literally looping around the junction. Useless, but I want to help.

@h I can vouch for SDRplay stuff. They are based in my area and I have a couple of their receivers - good quality items and a very approachable company.

@DC7IA I was about to say I can't see any obvious problem. I will probably change to use a different SMTP service (eg Mailgun) at some point in the near future. :)

@vfrmedia It's actually part of the broadcast band in the US, where it ends at 1700 kHz. When transatlantic conditions are good, it's pretty easy to hear US stations on there without interference from Europe.
