I very rarely moan about #Debian but today they've decided to update the version of VLC in stretch to 3.0.2. The perfectly working version that was there before has now been replaced with one that flickers on my screen.

It's Debian, so they must have had a good reason for doing it, but I literally use Debian so rando software updates like this don't happen...

@samtoland It is interesting! I think Chris Croome (Web Architects co-op) has got involved somehow. Crossed paths with him a few times while I worked in Sheffield - good person, competent and ethical.

@samtoland Personally, unless an instance is spewing out far-right or offensive material, I'd rather leave the decision to block to individual users. Switter isn't offensive in the slightest, it's just not for me. Others find it useful :)

@samtoland Perhaps an unpopular solution, but I have switter blocked. No disrespect intended to those on the instance, but no interest in the subject matter and too many ads.

The British government has made no indications at all that it plans to do anything with Assange other than have him face the music for skipping bail.

@dajbelshaw @Graham_Mitchell How many people are active out of the 1000+ members? I tend to see the same few names day after day on the local timeline. If someone signed up for an account and wandered off they won't be paying.

@politicsbot @samtoland I was baffled when Karen Bradley was named NI Secretary. She's the MP for an area where I used to work and I interviewed her a few times - not a pleasant person and I am not sure she had ever been to NI when she was named.

@jjg I'd have been more sympathetic if they had been more communicative rather than completely ignoring emails with reasonable questions like "you have £70 of my money, can I have an update?". If they were having issues, an email out to buyers explaining what was going on would have gone a long way.

Instead, they took money from my account, left me with no product and no communications and I had to charge back with the bank which was a hassle.

@jjg I ordered a Pocket CHIP a couple of years ago and had to do a chargeback on my card because it didn't arrive after several months and the company didn't bother replying to emails. It was in stock when I ordered, too! Rubbish company. Would never use again.
