@triodug I don't really follow the current trends, but a couple of years ago they were all about "we need to make socially conscious humor!"
It's infuriating to me; being a comedian doesn't make someone better informed or a better judge of social issues than being a car mechanic. But what really rattles me is seeing with my friends how it actually works on them. Hollywood stars pushing their pet issues doesn't really, but comedians making a joke about it somehow slips past many people's defenses.
It's not perfect, tho. Software keeps improving, but sometimes it crashes when loading some games and somehow it doesn't have a forceful shutdown features (like holding the power button), so the solution is the old trick of taking the battery out, Blackberry style. Which doesn't work too well on version 2, because its battery uses a small annoying cable and connector instead of the contacts of the version 1's battery. Once you know which games work well and have your emulators and bios and everything well setup though it's less of a problem.
Also, the USB-C port is purely for charging, so adding games to it requires taking out the MicroSD card and connecting it to a computer (which means for many computers that you need a card reader).
Still, these are so minor compared to how well this works.
@hj@limitingfactor There's an incinerator in the central region, it's just out of the way. And there is a better way to deal with corpses in central region anyway.
@hj Got to be careful not to kill the MULEs with your trike though. The thing about the corpses is not just inconsequential lore, it's also true in gameplay.
@hj I didn't even know until looking it up now that the likes even did anything for the gameplay, I thought it was just to reinforce that people's gratitude is reward in itself. IMO they should have done nothing.
@hj I really like how the gameplay loop ties in to the main theme of the game (connections, as you mention, and how they make life easier). The game at first forces you through areas alone, it's super tedious, you move slowly, you're super careful. Then the more you interact with and help others, the more infrastructure in the region starts appearing and helping you out, making everything easier and more fun. And you start taking more time building out infrastructure in areas you don't have to stay in to progress, just to help out and participate.
