"When you silence the moderates all that can be heard is the radicals."
-
@dtluna Where did you hear what he has to say on it?
-
@phildobangnz @dtluna @thatbrickster Well, that doesn't sound outrageous to me unless it is outrageous to point out the facts here.
-
@thatbrickster @dtluna Yeah. I think I would agree with you on JP there. Either way, I'm going to make up my own mind. I agree so far that we should have had an open discussion about immigration and everything surrounding it. Especially the consequences. Especially because it really does destroy lives now since there is a refusal still.
-
@dtluna I don't think wanting to protect ones values equates to that. I don't think it is wrong to want to preserve what you value, although how one goes about it can be wrong. Wouldn't you say you need to protect your values like anarchism? Labeling as you have is a tactic to shut down discussion. I'm not even sure what is meant by 'western values' to him yet before I can judge it. But I would be interested in hearing what he thinks is one since I'm lost and confused on what our values are these days.
-
@thatbrickster @dtluna ATM, I'm really not seeing this but I will keep listening. Almost finished this video from him. He just seems really reasonable right now. Maybe DT can link me to his outrageous stuff so I can listen later on.
-
@dtluna Why is he an islamophobe? From what little I've seen so far, he's been very reasonable. Like I said, he thinks we should have had the discussion about immigration a long time ago but it was shut up. There aren't policies in place because we weren't able to talk about it openly.
-
@dtluna What is wrong with Douglas Murray? He is calling for an open discussion here. One that we should be having but that has been shut up for years because politicians didn't want to think about or answer it.

@eidolon0 Lol... I guess not.

Bread is very tasty... mmm...
-
Oh dear... I'm up too late again. :s G'night, fedi! Sleep well and take care.

@icedquinn So, is it your fault what happened to you? If humans as a collective are the ones at fault for what happened to you then that would include you. I don't think that is right. You aren't responsible for the actions of other people... that would be unearned guilt. The responsibility lies with the guilty party that did it. Not humans as a collective but the individuals responsible.
-
@icedquinn I can sympathize I think the right word is, but not in regards to how I view humanity as a whole. These individuals didn't do the right thing and should be held to account for the actions they took, but that is not the responsibility of humans as a whole if that makes sense? But I digress, it's up to you how you view this. I just went through that stage of blaming humans as a whole and felt worse for it.
-
@mangeurdenuage To be fair, it was more like I was mistaken as a more feminine guy from someone who hadn't met me in person. Like my personality is more masculine.
-
@icedquinn It sucks that you've had to experience that. It's hard to know what action will lead to less violence, but once it has escalated to this point and they can't be reasoned with... it becomes about survival. I wouldn't generalise humans in that way but this may be down to my own experiences. Humans have the capacity to be what you mentioned, and humans can also be kind, good, and with empathy for others. A lot of people get wounded and lash out at others though, you can even see this in its more common form of shouting or done verbally.
-
One thing which is kicking me is that I have strong protecc vibes, but not enough to speak up when it comes to older adults in a position of authority. I get angry but it is paralyzed with fear.
-
I've been told that I have a masculine-like brain, but I don't know what it is like to be male since I don't have that biological experience.
-
@icedquinn If you are thrown in a situation where you are getting beat up, or have a crisis to overcome... then you take on that strong and heroic role to the best of your abilities. If no one else is there to protect you from getting beaten, then you need to protect yourself or else you will be beaten. So you learn to fight back. A woman isn't going to be as strong as a man, and even worse when you get a group of them... but she can give it her best and get in some well-placed kicks or punches while she still can if she is quick enough. Is this a masculine thing, or a survival instinct which is a part of the human condition?
-
@icedquinn I don't know... some of it could be due to what we value as a society too. So that could play a role. But it might be more situational. In order to survive, we have to exhibit the traits/qualities/behaviour which will lead to continuing to live. Like if we want to succeed in the workplace, then we need to be more confident and assertive. Goal-oriented in many jobs as this is what is measured with productivity and success.
