This is sort of fascinating. Canadians think Elizabeth May (of the Green Party) is the most ethical party leader. They also think her party is the most ethical party. Yet almost no one votes Green.
Oh, so that morally repugnant arms deal Canada has with Saudi Arabia? The Saudis haven't even been making their payments (I'm simplyfing for brevity; read the link for the full details).
"It may be the goal of liberal centrism to always flow with the power, reforming laws and institutions to meet its needs. But surely the labour movement was created to change the currents of power, not play in them. Whether, in the year leading to an election, the labour movement can effect that change is not clear. But the reason change is needed certainly is."
Perpetual manchild, Derek Fildebrandt (who, years ago, seemed like a pretty reasonable person with whom I vehemently disagreed on nearly everything), is now trying to call for provincial patriotism and a weird sort of Alberta nationalism. It's especially hilarious since he's only lived here for six years.
"On a Saturday...a group of Toronto-area residents posed as local voters at a candidate nomination meeting in Ottawa. The next day, the power broker who led the journey was working at another vote in Hamilton, where a printer secretly churned out fake identity papers."
Add in the fake news and race-baiting, why the fuck would anyone ever vote for these people?
They note that there are about 30% of respondents always against, and the same amount always for. This shift is about 9% of the rest when they discover actual immigration is .7% of pop instead of .4%
I had to pass a battery of tests assessing education, health, fluency, etc - and entry was *still* dependent on having a job in Canada.
This is really cool. Local First Nation gains a large degree of energy independence and good jobs for community members by installing solar panels on public buildings.
@ink_slinger Yeah, I suppose that's about all we can do.
I was really hoping to get a Canadian Bernie or Corbyn out of the NDP leadership race, and I hope that Singh can fill that role in #cdnpol. If he cant fill that role, and we get a slightly more left of centre Trudeau I will be very disappointed.
