I guess I should do an #introduction! I'm Thomas, a #CS major at the University of Texas at Dallas.

    Interested in #infosec, specifically #pentesting and #redteam work (also interested in #privacy, #iot, #re, #crypto, and other things!) Outside of infosec, things I like: #guitar, #bass, #lockpicking, #python, #CTF, #ethics, #politics (leftist) #linux, #queer, and #coffee.

I don't know what I'm doing, so be nice :) Currently in #DFW area, but in #RTP for the summer! Hmu if you wanna talk!

"Smart Phone Feature Request: Guest Mode" in this article the good people in CrimethInc. make a case for what they call "Guest Mode" for smartphones, rallying for teams and companies behind mobile OSes to come with this rather interesting and particular solution to a real problem and added layer of security and privacy.

I think it would be interesting to see this in @Purism #Librem5.

The Intercept presents Haven, an app created with the insight of Edward Snowden to protect people from "evil maid" attacks.

The app, open-source and currently Beta, is a collaboration between #Snowden (through the FPF) and #GuardianProject. It can be obtained from the Play Store and #FDroid.

The app, installed on a smartphone, records sound, movement and video while sending notifications another phone.

To conclude, I think they made a mistake, indeed. And no, this must not happen with a company of that size and one of the largest browser vendors. And you do not have to forgive them for that. It was a mistake (likely, of the marketing dep.).
I don't want to compare that situation to other browsers, but at least you have the choice to disable Firefox Studies from the beginning; after it happened, Mozilla reacted and, what may be the most urgent point for many: It did not collect user data. (So that whole thing was NOT a !privacy problem.)

They regret it and we can hope they'll do better in the future. And, no, you don't have to uninstall your browser, just because of that. You likely were never near that add-on installation, and even if, the add-on would not have collected any data, so it was not as bad as some may sound it like…

BTW, with some (intended) delay my point on #LookingGlass / #Mozilla:.

    First: Hey, yes, they fu**ed-up!
    But: I can understand why…

Because, personally, I'd really liked such a thing. Hey, yes, I like #MrRobot and it promotes the same values as Mozilla. And an #ARG can be funny, including such a "intentionally creepy" text in your add-ons and so on. It's really a geeky thing when you get hidden signs for a TV show, you like, in your browser or so. As Mozilla puts it, it "was intended to be fun".

    Y'all are into #privacy and #infosec, I hope?

Then hey, maybe consider buyin' a condom for your smartphone's charging cable if you don't already have one. It'll let you block your charging cord's data connections when you charge from unfamiliar USB ports, juuuuust in case there's something gnarly hidden under the casing or lurking on the host computer.

These days I tried to switch from uBlock to Privacy Badger because I like the idea not to block advertisement in general but only the harmful stuff. But now it happens quite often that websites detect Privacy Badger and show a pop-up every few seconds. So I'm back from blocking some advertisement to blocking all advertisement. Don't think it is better, but it seems like this is what publishers prefer these days. #adblocker #Web #privacy
