@InvaderXan I like tempeh, but usually just use it in stirfry instead of, say, chicken. I'll have to look up some of those Javanese recipes that are specifically made for using tempeh!

I also like using the "maple smoked" tempeh you can buy around here. It's sold as a bacon substitute and it mostly fails as such, but is absolutely delicious in a vegetarian BLT (could be vegan if you use vegan mayo). I actually prefer it to a "real" BLT these days.

Tempeh is made from soybeans, like tofu. Unlike tofu it's made by fermentation into a kind of cake, and is made from whole beans so it has more fibre and vitamins than tofu, as well as a different texture. There are also a few different kinds of tempeh, which may include other ingredients like coconut, cassava or peanuts. At least one is made with leftovers from tofu production.

It's popular in Southeast Asia, where it's often fried (either with or without batter, or grilled on skewers. If you're trying tempeh, it's probably worth looking up some Javanese recipes to try.

βœ… Pros: Nutritious and versatile. Keeps for a long time when cooked. A rare non-meat source of vitamin B12

❌ Cons: Made from soy and other things which may trigger allergies in some people

@allan @JordiGH I have two umbrellas. A small one, like you mention, that I usually keep in my backpack when going to and from work. If it's raining quite a lot when I'm leaving for work, or if a big downpour is expected later in the day, I'll haul the full sized out (folds down to roughly the size of a jaunty cane and even has the curved handle).

@brownpau Nice. I sometimes buy the jar of 12. Two dozen would last quite a while and my wife would probably complain that it's taking up too much space in the fridge, but I'm tempted...

@interneteh @TreacherousNexus Imagine the marriage proposals for a generation that grows up with promposals!

"Well, I hired a 10-piece band to ask someone to go to prom with me. I guess I'll need a full orchestra and a horse-drawn carriage to ask someone to marry me."

@DC_Victoria Seems a little outdated, with the question about whether same-sex marriage should be legalized. It was legalized almost 15 years ago. As far as I know, no major party supports undoing that, so why even ask the question?

Also super weird that they treat the Libertarian party as an apparent equal to the four parties who actually have sitting MPs.

@aldersprig Ho boy! Definitely. There's a lot like this. Lewd usually means, like, a sexual joke or something. But then sometimes people tag full nudity as "lewd" rather than, oh, I dunno "nude."

@opendork You're definitely right about that. My kid sometimes watches it on Saturday mornings, but I honestly assumed it was one of those shows that had ended it's run a decade ago but was just perpetually on TV because it was good/cheap/easy content.

TL;DR: The Kropotkin model – half the working day is physical, the other half is spent on intellectual pursuits – would absolutely work for many people.

The idea that artists, in particular, don't like working with their hands is laughable considering how many types of art involve exactly that.

But, yes, that guy is wrong. There's a reason so many "white collar" workers have hobbies that involve working with their hands. A lot of people like it and would do it part time or even fulltime in an economy where it paid more & had better working conditions.

Serious question: do modern powwows turn into EDM dance parties afterhours? Because I can't think of why else there would be pumping bass beats in the hood at this hour. And, if that's the case... Cool! πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Marvel/Disney should make a Hawkeye romcom. He goes off to fight with the Avengers. His wife has to deal with the school play. Rinse and repeat until he puts family first.

One of the most important things my parents taught me was that you NEVER cross a picket line. Ever. Never ever. It was as simple as Safeway workers being on strike and we didn't dare shop there until management caved.

Green capitalism works, but the poor bear the biggest brunt and our solar-powered future is just neofeudalism.

That part wasn't super clear. It said they expected to get their inheretance by around age 51, which is the extremely early end of the average. Not sure how old that would, on average, make their parents...70s, I suppose.

Apparently, on average, they overestimate how much they'll receive. Our fellow millennials also apparently all assume our parents will die relatively young.
