"As a perceived leader in the project, it can be difficult for outsiders to separate [someone's] opinions from [those] of the project." No opinion on the rest, but this line here is utter bullshit.
Most people have jobs or are part of other groups. We know that when people speak, they speak for themselves unless otherwise stated.
When people speak for an organization or group or project, they should expressly "put on their [position in the group] hat" by doing such things are using a specific account that is not used for personal speech, or prefacing their statements with some sort of "speaking on behalf of ..." language.
(This sort of collapsing of context is one of the big arguments against using a #CoC in a project. Every one of us has said or done something in some context that could be used in a different context to imply that we are actively hostile to some group's stated goals.)
@escapist I've tried a coupe of them before: Jekyll and Octopress. Pelican is somewhat similar. But they all need some sort of an additional layer of things. Ruby or Python or some other programming language. When I move to a new computer I was unable to migrate the setup I previously used to generate the site. Too Geeky for my level of computing. I can manage handmade HTML, or something created with #orgmode
Cannot say I am happy with what I see on WordPress.com, Flickr and several other places I used to post images, art and other bits and pieces. They have evolved into "social networks" I want blogs back!
@stuartb yes! I've said this before I'll say this again
1) it needs to be easy to install (easy: one click install in shared hosting.)
2) it needs to be easy to customize the profile (think tumblr, and I don't only mean changing the colors or editing the theme and good documentation on how to. it looks like this project gets this.)
3) it needs to have sane defaults, and have an intuitive and aesthetically well designed UI with right features, that is designed around the needs of an average user, not programmers alone. (like mastodon)
4) it needs to interoperate with existing networks.
