I don't celebrate xmas. I'm not religious so that aspect is out the window, I absolutely loathe the commercialism, and I don't like the notion that it's this one special day where you let friends and family know you love them, because that should be *every* day. I spend the whole year being generous when I can and giving people gifts when I can.

So, happy Monday. If you have to suffer through bullshit today, I'm sorry, I hope it's over quickly. Otherwise, I hope your Monday is a cool one. :)

My grandparents decided to learn Welsh when they were 65. After two years of lessons in it (and talking Welsh with me at home, I was going to a Welsh school and was already fluent), they were fluent. My grandmother, around the same time, decided to overcome her phobia of water and had me teach her how to swim. She'd swim laps with me in the pool up into her 80s.

You're not too old and it's not too late to try something new.

A friend posted this on Bookface. It's a quote from the book 'Momo' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Momo_(novel)). I like it because this is how I approach my mandalas. People have commented on the patience I must have drawing such big, intricate things - that's something I had to learn as much as I had to learn drawing the mandalas in the first place. Just having an 'emotional support' discussion with a friend who got himself into a situation and is panicking, and I'm gonna say the same thing here that I said to him in case someone needs to hear it;

If you are in mental distress, you are excused from everything and do not need to 'conform to societal expectations'. You do not need to excuse yourself from whatever situation you're in, you can just leave. It's okay. The people who love you will understand and those that don't don't matter.

Recommendations for video editing software for Android?

So discussing poverty and putting off fixing household things with a few people because you can't afford it, and @nico suggested setting up something where people who have the ability can do repairs and maintenance and stuff for those who can't otherwise afford it. Use the hashtag #fixmystuff if you have services you can offer - tools, knowledge, skill - or if you have something you need fixed. Don't forget to mention your general worldly location too! ^.^

When I joined masto, I gravitated towards following creative peeps and noticed a thing that's pretty common to all of us: we feel guilty for promoting places that people can buy our work or otherwise support us financially. So I started the #CreativeToots hashtag for that very reason. Got an Etsy page? Online store? Patreon? Selling a piece of art? Throw that tag on it. Do it with unfettered abandon. Everyone else: Look at that tag for artists to support. Buy their stuff. Help them create. <3
