@colon_three I hear good things about the toyota 1uz and its variants. my boyfirend has a 3uz in his car, too bad the thing is basically tied to a boat.
@colon_three sounds fun :> I hear audio have issues with oil leaks. then again as a honda boy all I have to worry about is lack of horsepower lol.
I knew a guy who took a J series engine (3.5 liter honda v6 with vtec) and crammed it in an s2000 (lightweight rwd honda convertible with a four cylinder that redlines at 9k).
I drove it once. you can have a lot of fun in a car like that lol.
@Lanceleoghauni thats what I am saying, people need to have to think about the machine they are driving and automatic transmissions gloss over certain essential details about how your gearbox works. if every californian had to consciously think about their gearing and where their torque is then youd end up with a lot less reckless cutting off and stupid passing of larger vehicles.
@Lanceleoghauni but you could get yourself out of the city for a decent drive right? iirc in southern california there are some really nice moments on the interstate near the coast
Perhaps on the eastern part of the state there are some good roads for it?
@colon_three I mean it really depends on what the purpose of a car is, an audi sports car will downgear uch faster then my parents 2013 acura mdx commuter SUV or my boyfriends ls430 (fucking landyacht)
Still I have yet to drive an automatic that provides the immediate shift in power of a manual trans.
I think I just want people to have to know more about hte machines they are driving.
@Lanceleoghauni thats too bad, I really enoyed the scenic drives in california while I was there.
I think once you get a get the quirks of whatever car you are driving and you are comfortable with really playing with it driving can be a really rewarding hobby.
@colon_three *lexus swerves in front of me while going far slower, speeds up directly after I have panic braked because flooring a lexus gearbox results in multiple seconds of lag before the transmission finally decides to downgear and offer some torque to reckless middle aged driver*
@colon_three Id rather give your mother a decent DCT with paddle shifters and automatic mode disabled then a normal automatic transmission and if I had the capital I probably would.
Automatic transmissions encourage dangerous driving and put cars in the hands of people who only commute and dont like to drive, id rather people have to think about the gears they are in and how the machine will really react when you floor it in a weak gearbox to cut me off going 80 on the interstate.
FUCK self driving cars, automatic transmissions should be illegal, CVTs should never not be tuned for performance and public transit needs to step up to fill the gap for people who cant drive clutch or dont like to drive cars.
