@Sinless the kernel itself does not update microcode. Usually your OS will load microcode updates at startup. For Linux, microcode is usually provided as a package in your OS's repos. Ie for Debian and Intel CPUs, it is intel-microcode in the non-free repo.

@KyleRuzic a couple of other possibilities, in order of likelihood:
One if your RAM sticks went bad. I've had a laptop fail to boot with bad ram.
Add-on card failed (GPU)
Some random peripheral failed
CPU failed, but only if you were overclocking, over volting, and/or had poor cooling
Motherboard
CPU failure regardless of overclocking

@KyleRuzic most likely it's the PSU. Start with that. Also double check that nothing came loose when you took the front panel off.

About time.

While I'm a big fan of #KDE Plasma, the PIM suite (Kontact et al) is still an inferior solution to what #GNOME offers.
Of course, #Mozilla #Thunderbird is still the best.

Bought this shirt after I first discovered #Linux. Yesterday I ripped a hole in the shirt, so time to toss it :(
RIP #Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal shirt, you had a good run, as did your OS.

@uranther when I bought my monitor, it was an excellent price for the combination of size + resolution. I COULD buy a bigger and/or higher resolution screen, but it would be difficult to find one for the right price.
But I would also want better hardware than what I have, ie better CPU and GPU.
Besides, my aging eyes don't need any more additional eyestrain.

@uranther what's wrong with 1080p? It's just the right resolution for a 24" monitor

I decided it was time to distro hop...to #Kubuntu. #KDE Plasma 5.15 was to enticing, as is the Kubuntu PPA.
Besides, I want better Vulkan and DXVK support with my Nvidia drivers, something Debian is going to lack for awhile.
Boy do I have a story to tell about this, though. Maybe later.
