@ayy 🤔 Certainly a possibility, although I'm not sure Buzzfeed could raise the capital to do so. The working #ThesesNotFeces though is that the cable news people need the online folks more than vice versa considering that the advertising sugar daddies are moving that way.
@mrmcmayhem I'm not a cable person but my parents claim that OAN is mostly just the facts ma'am style, although they've been accused by former employees of having a strong ProTrump bias
In our meta of media analysis and deconstruction, this seems like new ground is being broken and the establishment media companies are starting to bifurcate along the lines of "if you can't beat em, join em" - My long term prediction is that you'll see a merger between online "news" and a cable news company. Buzzfeed won't really IPO ,just looking to get bought by M5M </rant>
Points 2-4 indicate to me that this looks like the first attempt at really starting to see what a split with the traditional networks would look like, to see these players involved in this way with Netflix. That is particularly interesting in light of the recent announcement about Disney putting Star Wars and other IP exclusively on their own streaming service.
2) This is the first Netflix original I've ever noticed that has a laugh track. Given my typical video habits, this is VERY apparent to me.
3) There are a couple of places that are 99% certainly native ads. Format wise this at times even seems intentional as a way to "break" the segments in terms of editing/flow
4) It is produced directly by Warner Brothers and Chuck Lorre has a producer credit. I do know that he's responsible for minting a lot of lucrative TV franchises.
A few shows ago, JCD mentioned "Disjointed" as a show on Netflix and seemed to endorse it. I have watched it a little bit and now offer the following thoughts in multi-toot form:
1) It is actually decently funny and I consider myself to be a pretty tough crowd. It is a sitcom, but the writing freedom of not being attached to a network obviously is a plus in terms of joke writing.
Got to walk the neighborhood while jamming to (most of) the livestream today. Every Sunday my ritual exposes me to new anti-Trump graffiti. Is this going on in places that are not DC or San Francisco? I'm getting tired of all the variations on "Pence Loves Penis".
@ProfWorr There is room to criticize Neil Degrasse Tyson for various things, but one thing he elaborated on is that statistics is something most people don't have even a rudimentary understanding of. For some people, reasoning in this way is a virtual impossibility.
@temporaryDouchebag There's no rhyme or reason to what they do. They apparently banned Sargon for arguing with the white nationalists. It's just "ban anyone we don't like" - plenty of reason for me to feel good about having dropped my usage of the service.
