i hate how youtube monetization has incentivized everyone to convey information in the form of a youtube video demo even when it is the worst possible format and all you really need is a simple diagram
@violet I’m definitely interested as well. I get the feeling that a lot of the people who are cognizant of that sort of thing don’t really have the time or resources to build platforms, though :/
Is “you” appropriate for directly addressing plural folks? I tend to use something like “you all” for multiple people, but I’m not sure if that’s appropriate either. Which would you prefer? Do you prefer something else?
@violet for me, I have a “better late than never” mindset. For Matrix the issues haven’t really popped up until recently when centralized platforms have started cracking down harder on hate speech, etc. Now that the issues are showing up, it’s good to know there’s a commitment to fix them.
This is in contrast to Peertube, which is reluctant to implement anti-abuse features people request.
@alexandria I think the solution to that is to make sure the apps work well with screenreaders. On that note, I’d appreciate testing for Fractal if you know people who require screenreaders or if you use one yourself: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/fractal/
@violet Matrix is “okay”. It’s not exactly what I want, but I see signs of it getting somewhere.
The good thing about Matrix is that it’s at the stage where I can still talk to the people making it about issues and get responses. For example, the head of the project recently told me that they are serious about fixing the anti-abuse tooling.
@alexandria yes, I do. But not every IRC client does that, and not every IRC client is expected to do that. Because of this, I tend not to use features like that when working with IRC.
Rich text and images are really important to how I chat. Things like code snippets, formatting, etc. are all essentials for me, which is why IRC doesn’t work for me.
@bamfic both, really. I’m not particularly fond of the way JS works, and I’m also not fond of the kind of issues you can get when working with GNOME libraries and JS.
Half-serious about this. I’d have much more fun working on the apps I maintain if they weren’t written with GJS. Nothing against the people working on it, but the developer experience of using it has been very poor for me.
