I see a frequently repeated assumption that single-user pods are somehow more "private". I don't see how, at all. If anything, they're less private because every interaction gets stored on someone else's pod. Am I missing something?

Today I was reminded of the song Black Hole Sun, and I was wondering if you shrunk the sun down to within it's Schwarzchild radius in Universe Sandbox ², would it actually collapse it into a black hole, and would the orbits of the sun's satellites be disrupted. The answers, as it turns out, are "yes" and "no", as one would expect. Surface temps took a nosedive, though.

After spending some time evaluating #Hubzilla, I've decided to stop. While it has some nice features that are lacking in Diaspora*, there are too many fiddly bits and bobs, and the UI is cluttered. I think it would be off-putting to the typical Facebook refugee.

I know it wasn't designed to be a federated social network platform per se, so it's not fair to judge it as one. However, that's all I'm interested in, so I really don't care what else it can do. I understand the developer is working on a new project that is intended to be a social network platform, and I definitely look forward to checking that out when it's ready for prime time.

I just finished binging The First. I thought it was pretty good, but if you're expecting to see people on Mars, or even on their way to Mars, or anything at all happening on Mars, you may be a bit disappointed. Hopefully there will be a season two.
