I'm seeing more and more tweets and blog posts about #Mailpile.

I think we finally crossed a usability threshold, where folks are successfully installing the app and giving it a try.

Embarrassing bugs are being found in the process, but that's the name of the game, right! I'm happy with this.

My wife wants me to model the peak/off-peak energy costs into my proposed heating machine-learning system. This just got a *whole lot* more complicated.

Thinking is required. Possibly even *gasp* a blog post...

OK, I can kinda put a bit of weight on it now. Probably will be fine by morning...

While I was sitting around with little yo do, I decided to make a small thing. Definitely not rigorous, but maybe interesting? You tell me :)

Ow ow ow. Without warning, I suddenly cannot put any weight on my ankle. Literally was walking across the kitchen and nearly collapsed. Wonder what I did...? Hope it's better tomorrow...

So the data capture is up and running, logging temperature sensor values, last seen tinestamps, lighting states and of course the heating state, every 5mins to a CSV file.

Now we wait 2 weeks. That should give me enough data to train on...

Oh! I totally forgot (see?) relatively recently learning about the Pomodoro technique. Short version: set a timer for 20 minutes and do just one thing. Nothing else. No mail or Slack checking. Afterward, take a 5 minute break to do anything you want. This helps 1) decompose daunting tasks into manageable chunks, 2) give your brain a chance to replenish neurotransmitters and consolidate memories, and 3) remind you to periodically snap out of hyper focus and eat, stretch, go to the bathroom, etc.

Getting here was NOT easy. Holy shit, no. And itโ€™s not โ€œsolvedโ€. I still struggle every day with a general inability to think the way people want me to. My goal here isnโ€™t to tell others theyโ€™re not trying hard enough (like I was told). Instead, I want to offer a little bit of hope and a different perspective than you usually hear, and to mention some coping mechanisms that may making things just a little easier for someone out there.

@GreyLinux (I actually only care about that so that it can learn that the heating should stay on *if* I stay up gaming, so the desk lamp is probably the only one that matters, the rest is a fairly predictable time schedule)

@GreyLinux yeah I prefer not to rely on that, as my wife in particular tends to let her phone run down. PIRs are the way to go, once I get started with these pro minis.

For now I think the obvious solution is lights + a column for whether it's day or night. The model will learn that the lights are only useful when day==0 :)
