hoshI see that when I import an RSS feed of a blog to my hubzilla stream - I just imported the Dusty Clouds Brainstorms blog - it doesn't content itself with just new entries, but goes back in time 11 years - right now it's still going. I wasn't expecting that. I suppose this explains how it might be possible to import my blog into hubzilla.
Ultimately those "key bureaucracies" depend on mythologies. When people stop believing in them these "bulwarks" will fail. They were never very substantial in the first place. We were raised to pledge allegiance to flags but nowadays people see the institutions of government mainly as protectors of power and privilege.
Lao Tsu:
In the highest antiquity, (the people) did not know that there were (their rulers). In the next age they loved them and praised them. In the next they feared them; in the next they despised them. Thus it was that when faith (in the Tao) was deficient (in the rulers) a want of faith in them ensued (in the people).
@Mike Macgirvin I'm sure it's easy to resolve, but I was thinking it must be something in the code, as I haven't found it in the settings. Dates before today's dates are greyed out for me and can't be entered manually.
Did you manually import your blog? I remember when I asked about this, a few years back, you said you were thinking to develop a tool to import blogs from legacy systems like WP.
Today it is only key bureaucracies - the courts, the press, and even the FBI - who stand in the way of Trump's becoming a charismatic autocrat in the mold of Vladimir Putin. These bulwarks remind us that in an era of authoritarian individualism, what democracy needs first and foremost is not more personalized modes of mediated expression. It is a renewed engagement with the rule of law and with the institutions that embody it.

hosh@Massimiliano Is disappearing and reappearing comments a thing on hubzilla? Probably that 2nd idea I had was a bit better than the first one, and now it seems to have disappeared, as well as a later comment. I'll just put it back here, in case the disappearance is permanent. But maybe it will pop up again anyway. But if the worst comes to the worst, it can be found in my channel's photo storage. If somebody needs the gimp file in order to improve on it I can provide that. This time it seems to have got embedded too, which didn't happen the first time. I think that hubzilla instances take on the character of their owners.

hoshIt's lovely that the furry elephant network continues to receive good press and and is experiencing an influx of new users. I'm also glad the alternative network that is finally succeeding isn't named something like "quitter", because defining oneself by something one is against isn't a great idea and quitting doesn't sound like a good beginning. That said, "mastodon" reminds me of dinosaurs and other extinct creatures, which isn't so positive either.
Naming of social networks has always been a hit and miss affair, but popularity doesn't seem to depend on choosing a good name or even good technology. Google+ is much better than Facebook but didn't go anywhere. Jaiku was better than Twitter at the time it was purchased by Google, and there were one or two that I personally liked, such as Twine, which never really took off.

@Andrew Manning Thanks. This, together with what @Sean Tilley has written enabled me to understand the feature. It looks simple but effective. I'm supposing that widgets could be incorporated on the articles page and elsewhere in the system to present a list of articles, etc. Are we there with that yet?
If the articles feature is now stable, it may be possible to think about creating import tools from what Mike was referring to - already a few years ago during Red Matrix days - as "legacy" systems like WordPress.
When reading through the list of add-ons, I didn't realize this was intended also for blog posts. It said something about "interactive articles" so I was thinking it must be something like a Google Docs replacement.
In the Facebook universe, I guess this would be our equivalent of Notes.

hosh!Hubzilla Support Forum I was thinking how Hubzilla might be more usable as a blog. A couple of things might be: custom posts, or a way to differentiate between a "status" and a (blog) post, and then the ability to display only blog posts, all together, without the detritus of umpteen statuses appearing among them. Wordpress has a "More" tag that you can put after the first sentence or two of a blog post, or alternatively an excerpt box, where you can summarize a post. Then it enables you to display a blog page based on excerpts.

hoshOne thing I learned from this is that Arabic Jinn (from to "hide" or "conceal") has the same semitic root as Hebrew Gina, Gan (garden). From the idea of a "protected" or "concealed" place. I once wrote a blog post on the words for garden in various languages. (In many of them there is this same idea of a protected or enclosed place.)
