♲ @matrix@mastodon.matrix.org: This Week in Matrix is now available! All the news on homeservers, cross-signing (OMG SO CLOSE), new terminal client, Doctor Who shenanigans, learn about how state resolution works and MORE! #matrix #twim #stateresolutionmatrix.org/blog/2020/04/17/thi…
I started working on cross-signing in @Matrix.org with the initial spec proposal https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-doc/pull/1681 submitted in September 2018. Over a year and a half later, it's nearly ready to go live in Riot.im. We had a video-conferenced key-signing party today at work, which involved us yelling emoji over each other. It's nice to have people stress-testing something that you've worked on for so long, and have it hold up.
♲ @matrix@mastodon.matrix.org: Lots of new homeserver development happening atm - between Dendrite having implemented V2 state res, Conduit rising from Ruma's ashes, and Maelstrom forming too! So no better time to publish a new guide for understanding V2 state res from @neilalexander@twitter.com: matrix.org/docs/guides/impleme…
♲ @kde@mastodon.technology: @gnome and KDE deepen their commitment to work together and unveil KNOME, a new desktop that brings users the best of both worlds:
♲ @micahflee@mastodon.social: Zoom meetings aren’t actually end-to-end encrypted, despite misleading marketing on their website, in their security white paper, and in the user interface in their app theintercept.com/2020/03/31/zo… by @yaelwrites and myself
♲ @fsfe@mastodon.social: Many proprietary software companies are currently using the extended homeoffice situation of many employees to offer lock-in solutions gratis or even labelling them as "free". But take care to build on Free Software. Else your solution today might turn into a burden tomorrow:
♲ @matrix@mastodon.matrix.org: Get the latest news from This Week in Matrix! Lots of new demos in Matrix Live, and a newly annouced client which already supports end-to-end encryption (also news about servers, bots, bridges, clients and more!) matrix.org/blog/2020/03/27/thi… #twim #decentralization #matrix
Successfully using entirely self-hosted+federated Riot/Matrix/Jitsi/Etherpad/PeerTube to host lectures, teleconference with students, answer questions in chat, and collaboratively edit their code. Write-up is incoming. Once I take a nap.
♲ @cryptpad@social.weho.st: Our servers are under considerable load as more people are working remotely. Everything is holding up and we plan to spend our next few days ensuring that we can continue to scale. In the meantime we appreciate your patience if we're slow to answer support tickets or issues.
♲ @matrix@mastodon.matrix.org: The matrix.org server is seeing its highest traffic levels ever today. We’re battling to keep it performant (via incr optimisations to state res and the multimaster support), but meanwhile you may want to run your own server or get one from @ModularIM@twitter.com, @ungleich@twitter.com etc.
Here are some Open Source tools that can help with remote work:
- @Matrix.org (and Riot.im or any other compatible client): chat, instant messaging (full disclosure: I work on Matrix.org as my full-time job) - @CryptPad: collaborative real-time document editing, kanban boards, spread sheets, and more - meet.jit.si: video conferencing - www.loomio.org: discussion and decision making
♲ @cryptpad@social.weho.st: It seems a lot of people are finding out about CryptPad.fr now that their team has transitioned to remote work. Coincidentally, we've been working on a major upgrade to our encrypted kanban app featuring a markdown editor and tagging system for all your tasks. #WFH
