♲ @cryptpad@social.weho.st: Our servers are under considerable load as more people are working remotely. Everything is holding up and we plan to spend our next few days ensuring that we can continue to scale. In the meantime we appreciate your patience if we're slow to answer support tickets or issues.
♲ @matrix@mastodon.matrix.org: The matrix.org server is seeing its highest traffic levels ever today. We’re battling to keep it performant (via incr optimisations to state res and the multimaster support), but meanwhile you may want to run your own server or get one from @ModularIM@twitter.com, @ungleich@twitter.com etc.
Here are some Open Source tools that can help with remote work:
- @Matrix.org (and Riot.im or any other compatible client): chat, instant messaging (full disclosure: I work on Matrix.org as my full-time job) - @CryptPad: collaborative real-time document editing, kanban boards, spread sheets, and more - meet.jit.si: video conferencing - www.loomio.org: discussion and decision making
♲ @cryptpad@social.weho.st: It seems a lot of people are finding out about CryptPad.fr now that their team has transitioned to remote work. Coincidentally, we've been working on a major upgrade to our encrypted kanban app featuring a markdown editor and tagging system for all your tasks. #WFH
♲ @dajbelshaw@mastodon.social: Hey all, we've got a small budget for @moodlenet security/privacy consulting. Would appreciate pointers to anyone with the chops (including #ActivityPub experience) who might be able to help audit our repos in the next few weeks/months 🙂
♲ @fsfe@mastodon.social: Security scandal around #WhatsApp shows the need for decentralised #FreeSoftware messengers, #OpenStandards in communication, and digital sovereignty
♲ @torproject@mastodon.social: There's no upside to mass surveillance.
"A National Security Agency system that analyzed logs of Americans’ domestic phone calls and text messages cost 0 million from 2015 to 2019, but yielded only a single significant investigation..."
♲ @matrix@mastodon.matrix.org: This Week In Matrix is here! Featuring #gsoc news, Matrix Live with KB1RD on matrix-notepad, Synapse 1.11 and upcoming major perf fixes, free Radicals, Dad Bots and SO MUCH MORE! matrix.org/blog/2020/02/21/thi…
♲ @matrix@mastodon.matrix.org: It's official - @mozilla@twitter.com is fully live on Matrix! exple.tive.org/blarg/2020/02/2… Helping get Mozilla going has been a lot of fun, and we'll see a lot of improvements to Riot's UX in the coming months based on their feedback (turns out they know quite a lot about FOSS usability :D)
♲ @matrix@mastodon.matrix.org: Yay! We've been accepted into Google Summer of Code as an organisation again this year - calling all students: if you have a free summer and want to help build Matrix get thinking of proposals! summerofcode.withgoogle.com/or… #gsoc #gsoc2020
♲ @vanitasvitae@fosstodon.org: Happy #freesoftware day 2020!
Even though they technically don't make software, I'd like to thank the XMPP Standards Foundation ( @xmpp ) and their members for their work on open standards and decentralized communication.
I'd also like to thank @matrix which shares the same goals.
A special thanks goes to halfshot for building the matrix-bifrost bridge which connects both protocols.
♲ @vanitasvitae@fosstodon.org: I just managed to join a private @matrix room Form #Conversations using the #bifrost bridge!
I think what hindered me before was that my matrix account which was already joined in that room before was using the same nick as my @xmpp account tried to use when joining. Renaming the xmpp nick did the trick ;)
