@skypage Some frameworks are fine because they agree with how I already think and don't feel like chains around my feet.

@skypage Yes, but there is a sweet spot where there are just enough rules to make it useful, but not so many that you can't design your own architecture. For example, Node.js is good. Express.js on top of that is good too. Sails.js (Rails-inspired framework) is not so good because you're no longer the architect and it forces you to think like the person who designed the framework.

@skypage Well, that's more original for sure, but it still leaves me wondering what the point is. What do you get out of that? I play an MMORPG called Real Life. It has huge levels. You only have one life, the game is very difficult to master, and it takes decades to complete. 😉

My cat is a black hole of attention. He gets real annoyed if I don't give him attention, and it has to be real attention too. No holding your phone with one hand and petting him with the other. Demanding little guy he is.

@MightyPork I didn't personally take them, no, but they don't look too different in real life.

@Azure Wow, people actually make the mistake the other way around like that? For me, as a kid, I was never confused about sour, just about bitter...

@Azure After I learned the difference between sour and bitter, it's always bothered me when people confuse them. I think it happens very early in childhood. Sour and bitter things both cause you to make the same face, so you assume that the words overlap. On a Venn diagram, bitter eclipses sour. One might mistakenly call a lemon "bitter", but one would never mistakenly call burnt toast "sour".

Most advice is useless. Self help advice is useless because you won't get it until you finally get it. Business advice is useless because you won't get it until you've tried and failed, and even then, you can't implement it unless the rest of the company gets it too. Love advice? You won't listen until it's too late. Financial advice? Same story.

@skypage I don't actually love rules. I just love to make things, and I much prefer to invent my own rules as I do so.

@frankiesaxx @thor I considered a tech instance but I like variety. There's a possibility that I will choose another instance at a later point. Let's just say I'm here on a long visit to see if I like it. So far, I've noticed that octodon.social gets very quiet in the daytime, so I'm wondering if an European instance might be a better fit. I'd like an instance that's active between roughly 10.00 and 02.00, with many English speakers.

Having a board make decisions on behalf of a community is an extremely useful concept, but it's necessary to have a culture for voting. Voting over things needs to be the rule, not the exception. If the board members aren't in the habit of voting, it will seem dramatic or confrontational when a board member finally does ask to vote over an issue.
