Since I'm rambling about #aesthetics in FLOSS these days: http://beautifulopen.com/ is an awsome site showcasing beautiful websites for Free/open source software. There's a lot of great stuff there!

But: Almost all of them are for libraries and other development stuff. I don't understand how they can make such great sites while consumer directed FLOSS products so often are stuck with websites that looks straight outta the 00's.

How can we get the talents to help the FLOSS consumer products out?

So, are there any FLOSS alternatives to SoundCloud out there, for sharing any kind of audio with the world?

Preferably which also looks good and lets others follow you and can be self hosted (federated!), but doesn't have to be (like Mastodon).

Makes it really hard to know which one to link to in Wikipedia articles. If anyone have any tips on what to look for I'd appreciate it.

Why are there like a million different copies of the exact same books over on #ArchiveOrg? Like 6 versions of "The moral instruction of children" and 5 "Marriage and divorce" etc on this list of books by Felix Adler https://archive.org/search.php?query=creator%3A%22Adler%2C+Felix%2C+1851-1933%22

"The Internet Archive is now leveraging a little known, and perhaps never used, provision of US copyright law, Section 108h, which allows libraries to scan and make available materials published 1923 to 1941 if they are not being actively sold."

"If the Founding Fathers had their way, almost all works from the 20th century would be public domain by now (14-year copyright term, renewable once if you took extra actions)."

Snapchat is extremely popular. Still, there is no FOSS, encrypted, privacy friendly alternative AFIAK.

I argue that #Wire could and should take this role. This cold be its great breakthrough.

Read my reasoning here, and give it a thumbs up if you agree: https://github.com/wireapp/wire-android/issues/817 https://octodon.social/media/uQQpJPEQTObPsT0fi84
