I just saw the clip from "A Million Ways to Die in the West", where he played a hilarious Abraham Lincoln hallucination and/or memory. I started out reading a fantasy novel. A simple police procedural in a city far away, that straddles an old slow river.

But no, it was about ethics. It was about knowing the difference between what’s allowed, what’s legal, and what’s right. And that fairly often those three don’t line up.

It was about giving voices to the voiceless, and hearing how much they’ve been trying to say this whole time.

I always start out reading a fantasy novel when it comes to Pratchett. And somehow it ends up in a moral philosophy lesson from a professor with a grasp of humanity that still leaves me astonished.

In Swedish "rust" and "toast" are homophones, so I can make the joke "in this weather, everything rusts except the bread".

The first time I opened up a computer that had been in HK for a few years, I was shocked. I had never seen a computer look like that.

Don't buy an expensive computer in this city unless you can keep it in a constantly climate-controlled space. It won't survive many years.

@Hypolite Petovan Yeah, sorry, I just don't have the issue you do and I don't know how to have that issue. If someone translates a US English book or article into Swedish, I expect units to be metric approximations, unless there is something critical to the narrative that requires them to be in US units or to be precise.

In-universe some space squid might be saying "ssshshhhd zvdhdvv egeyh 144 rirjek", but we're reading it as "see you in an hour", and that's that.

@Hypolite Petovan Have you read or watched The Expanse? It's not about playing with shiny gizmos and funny words at all.

It's speculative fiction set in the future. It introduces two fantastical elements, one to make the story possible and one to be the McGuffin that drives the story. Apart from that it's plausible future history, with a focus on colonialism, capitalism and the struggle against them. Strong character writing, political struggle and competence porn.

@wraptile I'm sure a good part of what's keeping me from gaining back what I got rid of is that I just have more leg muscle than I did a year ago, just from walking a lot.

With swimming and some own-weight exercises I'm hoping to add a little bit up top as well. 😊

Doing only things I believe I can keep doing for the rest of my life is core to this project.

As I mentioned in libranet.de/display/0b6b25a8-1… I've reached a floor on my weight loss and I need to carefully dial up efforts a bit.

I've been a bit extra careful with my eating these last two weeks and I'm right back on my weight floor, rather than hovering 1–2 kg above it. If I can stay here and add a little bit of swimming exercise I hope I can get back to where I was 20 years ago, just 2 kg lower than this. At that point I'll be happy to just hold that weight for a while, but my final target is 2-3 kg further down, my pre-uni weight.
