Hey any #lgbtq #comicbook geeks know what happened to North West Press? Their website has been down for a bit and its left me worried. They were at the center of a lot of cool stuff.

A year and a half after the pocket acquisition there is still no server side sourcecode for pocket, no option to self host. No API or choice in the userfacing UI to swap it out with similar services like wallabag.

The latest firefox / cloudflare shenanigans has me freaked out enough to opt out of shield studies going forward and has me seriously contemplating if Mozilla has finally crossed the line into seriously broken.

Though that leaves me without a mainstream browser to use. (Not looking for suggestions there.)

    Hey #fediverse

Can someone point me to a resource for understanding #tinc mesh #VPN stuff? Im honestly not a networking guy, but tinc always looked neat, and mesh networking and VPNs are all things I like conceptually.

A lot of the example configurations ive seen start off simple but I get muddled on what their doing the further in I get.

We need email clients that support text/markdown as a content type, so we can depreciate this dangerous text/html content type.

Hrmm... @Fairphone has a big reveal May 8th and Ive heard chatter they may have some corporate interest in getting a budget fairphone out the door
    ~
and or might be working towards a phone that would be viable in the states.

Either would excite. Especially as they have a official w/ and without google images for their phones.

This underlying problem needs to become a priority. Either pressuring #github to go free software or getting free software to go elsewhere.

Github becoming synonymous with open source just muddies free software waters more.

    Free Software needs free tools.

I need a creative commons licensed web series about rebels from the cyberpunk future going back to a caricature of the 90s to warn us about google and amazon and any form of social media more ridiculous than bulletin boards.

The Rebels should talk about the consequences if we dont. Like Russia hacking America and installing joke millionaire presidents and they should dress like Rob Liefeld characters.

New rule: Don't buy it if it doesn't have mainline support in Linux or BSD kernels and an unlockable bootloader.

Ive been following the later more or less but the former is pretty damn important too.

This Nexus Player thing would be a whole other matter if I could put a proper OS on it.

@maiki I got my start with software hacking and coding when I accidentally deleted our dos computer's autoexec.bat. A friend of the family had set up the machine for us with a startup menu to dummy proof dos. We were clueless how to work it ourselves. My mom promptly drove me to the library and calmly explained that it was OK and id just learn how to fix the computer.

We are creating a world with no room for that narrative now.

@maiki I hit more issues with basic app compatability when I wrote that, which make me concerned I think I might take a whole other approach.

There are a lot of assumptions built into the AndroidTV platform that take a google account for granted, more so than even any proprietary phone ive touched lately.

I may just pair a bluetooth controller to it and load retroarch on it for a rainy day though.
