They are talking about decolonizing hummus and I'm not sure if that means I wouldn't be able to eat it anymore* but honestly it seems to be headed that way anyway so I would accept that.

(* My only Middle Eastern "heritage" is that I lived in Wichita for thirty-odd years, which has had a huge Syrian/Lebanese presence since the 1800's.)

A Palestinian-American reporter on birdsite just retweeted the "worst" hummus and I had to stop myself from yelling "CW THAT STUFF" at her.

(And of course just when I stop worrying about them, I discover a half-dead camel cricket the cats have been playing with...)

It is "constantly mistake tracked-in pinecone petals for some kind of dead bug the cats have played with" season again.

Got stopped by a little baby freight train today which is the first time that has happened since we left Wichita (which is *full* of grade crossings and non-baby freight trains, legacy of the 1870's when having a railroad was make-or-break so cities would let them do whatever).

Weirdest part was that it was just crossbuck-lights-bell, no gate arm. Shout-out to the medical transport driver who apparently missed the lights, heard the train whistle, panicked and almost stopped ON THE TRACKS geez.

The pans of kitty grass (in vermiculite/water crystals) had been producing fruit flies, so I put them out on the porch to let them dry out, figured I'd eventually bake the substrate and replant.

The fruit flies have finally disappeared from the house, so today I brought home a pre-grown pot of kitty grass, watered it, put it on the counter... and came back to an entire colony of sugar ants evacuating their newly-flooded home. 😫
