    1. WhatsApp exploit let attackers install government-grade spyware on phones
      By Devin Coldewey from TechCrunch
WhatsApp just fixed a vulnerability that allowed malicious actors to remotely install spyware on affected phones, and an unknown number reportedly did so with a commercial-grade snooping package usually sold to nation-states.

I review VPNs and I genuinely believe that they are a valuable tool and that most vendors are acting in good faith.
The atmosphere surrounding this industry, however, is extremely toxic.

      from PCMAG
I've been testing and reviewing security software and VPNs for seven years, and I'm convinced that VPNs are critically important but also that the industry may be headed toward a self-inflicted disaster. This is an open letter to VPN companies: Do better.

My colleague Michael Kan has a great story out about a fake VPN review site, and how its scam worked.
Sites like these piss me off because they poison the well of consumer confidence. How can anyone tell what reviews are real, or what companies are trustworthy, when sites like these exist?
These sites also piss me off because they make my job—actually reviewing VPNs—even harder.
