"Tesla’s battery factory brought high-paid tech jobs to Nevada – but is soaking up huge tax breaks that critics say have seriously depleted public services"
Did you just say neoliberalism?

TFW Adam effin' Smith himself writes that labour is the ONLY way to determine the true value of a good or service ("Labour, therefore, is the real measure of the exchangeable value of all commodities" in "The Theory of Moral Sentiments") but people still reject the LTOV because Marx.
"Mexico’s president-elect vowed to rule for people of all social classes, all sexual orientations and all points of view. “We will listen to everyone. We will care for everyone. We will respect everyone,” he said. “But we will give priority to the most humble and to the forgotten.”
Lovely words, for sure.
"These days every geek has an ICO white paper in their hands and they're pushing (their algorithm). More than half of them are broken," Sirer said. Sirer's team at Cornell is developing a green blockchain algorithm called proof-of-useful work, in which the next computer to validate a block and collect new coins is chosen based on energy expended performing a useful function in the real world."
An interesting idea, that's for sure.

this paper from 2010 is an example of how the warning signs and red flags about surveillance + information technology have been continuously raised since long ago,
it's a perfect description of surveillance capitalism ante litteram, 4 yrs before the term was coined

""We are helping the community when there are sick children. They call me on the radio and we take the children to the health centre," he says. Similarly, more children are now at school because it is more affordable"
This is the true meaning of renewable energy: communities helping themselves out of poverty, sickness, ignorance, thanks to low cost, locally produced energy. No other source of energy, and least of all nuclear, has the same revolutionary potential.
Switched To Linux | Episode 64 / Tin Foil Hat Time: "Digital Societies are Upon Us".

L'approssimazione dilaga, resistere è un dovere. Leggiamo tanto, leggiamo tutt*, anche qui su mastodon. :mastohi: :lgbt_io: :antifa:
From the Solarpunk Aesthetic tumblr:
Biotechnologist Marin Sawa and her University of London research group have created a proof-of-concept for printing solar cells onto paper using carbon nanotubes and cyanobacteria.
This technology is "[...] capable of generating a sustained electrical current both in the dark (as a ‘solar bio-battery’) and in response to light (as a ‘bio-solar-panel’) with potential applications in low-power devices."
@bob I'm so glad I can read cyrillic when I see these sweet posters! :D
The reason mechanical keyboards are so expensive is almost entirely because of commodity fetishism and nerd points. There is no reason to justify charging (and buying) keyboards at hundreds of dollars just because the switch underneath is slightly different. There is no better testament to the fact that geeks and their money are easily parted than mechanical keyboards.
Awesome news: thanks to the support of SolidFund we have 10 #free tickets available for low-income people in worker #coops to join our #UK workshops. 🎉
Please share with cooperators around #Manchester + #London.
The future is cooperative 🌶
@davidpgil this is both wrong conceptually and false historically. In fact, Bitcoin itself started as a fully decentralized system that, over the course of the last 10 years, degraded to the point that two or three Chinese mining pools are practically the only relevant entities in the whole network, acting as a "worldwide mint".
Is anyone creating videos and uploading them to #PeerTube?
I ask because I'd love to have something to watch on here. 😛
@paulfree14 wow that sounds A LOT like they were waiting for a pretext...
@paulfree14 wait, what? O.o Do you have any non-ductch sources?
@Antanicus not to mention the 'cult' aspects...
