The snakes had downloaded every toolbar known to humanity and were hellbent on keeping them all.
Also, Bonzi Buddy.

Calling the actual tech support people and having them refer me to a veterinarian...
Frantically downloading anti-virus software onto a flash drive, deleting stuff from C:\, and hearing the gentle hiss of a bunch of garter snakes reinstalling everything...
Nothing quite like waking up from a dream in which you had to do tech support for one of the lab computers bc it was full of snakes
I went to a party over the weekend. While I was there, someone asked what I do for a living, and I explained about the startup and taking a gamble on it.
"Oh, weren't you worried about money?"
"Well, yeah, but I'm used to living on a lot less than what I currently do, so it was scary but okay. I have a safety net."
"Oh, but what about..."
And I braced myself for the inevitable question about debt.
It is Friday afternoon, I have two hours left at work and nothing to do except a gigantic and dull project in Excel.
Y'all know what that means:
If you've ever had a question about anything even vaguely related to science, ask it here and I'll try to answer.
I keep seeing a lot of apologies for not being interesting or funny or positive, and I just wanna say:
You are a person, not a brand. You do not need to be consistently anything but yourself. If you need to take a break, that's OK. We're all people, we'll understand.
If ever you feel like you're a terrible person, remember Thomas Midgely: the man who gave us *not only* leaded gasoline (using tetraethyl lead, which caused widespread lead poisoning in the fabs that produced the gas as well as devastating environmental effects that are still felt to this day), but *also* developed the first chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which he felt would be too inert to do any "real harm". (Tell that to the ozone layer.)
@bstacey I feel very lucky that the sole professor in my department for grad that believed in "destroying" students was fired for essentially that reason.
