@triumph For visual stuff, you want OpenCL in the GPU. In that regard, you should go with AMD, if you don't mind kernel blobs. -

> Intel uses MINIX to keep secrets from its users and enable total third-party control over their computers
Creator of MINIX: "this reaffirms my view that the BSD license provides the maximum amount of freedom to users." 🤢 http://www.cs.vu.nl/~ast/intel/
When you enable "users" to rescind freedom, it benefits powerful companies at real individual people's expense.
This is why I advocate "AGPL3 everything" and why I despair that nobody has written a fully AGPL3 OS kernel yet.

"Intel designed a secret security flaw into every computer on the planet but that's their business decision so it's not for us to judge"
"I use the most permissive license, so amoral profit-driven paperclip maximizers can do whatever they want with ~no obligations~"
"Gosh I wish the paperclip maximizer had the common courtesy to tell me about its plans to turn the universe into paperclips."
"No, that's my only complaint, do carry on."

if I could control what information of mine gets traded around,
if marketers and other companies actually had to ask my permission to use it,
if I could revoke that permission, then I might be somewhat okay with business models built on the sharing of limited demographic information.
but in the entire history of the industry never once has anybody even considered the idea of permission or privacy. they _can_ profile and surveil, so they _do_.
so fuck 'em
