An estimated 50 million tons of E-waste are produced each year. The USA alone discards 30 million computers each year. Linux can help reduce this problem by giving a second life to laptops and PC's. It takes volunteers like many of us here to help people to install Linux and provide them with a fully capable second hand PC.

My sons college is forcing students to use proprietary Adobe products like Illustrator and Photoshop and this really pisses me off. Any school should offer their students the possibility to use free and open source software and with #Inkscape, #GIMP, #Krita and #Blender there are excellent alternatives available.

A somewhat older (2016) but still interesting article about the history of #Hubzilla. Also contains a biography of Mike Macgirvin the developer that started #Friendica, Hubzilla and #Osada. It's interesting to learn that Mike launched Mistpark, the predecessor of Friendica, before #Diaspora*.
