Nobody is saying "I am offended and demand you stop saying this", please stop making shit up. What people might say is, "That's a fucked up thing to say and I don't want to be around people who say that".

Free speech advocates, in every single instance when I've encountered them, have wanted not only freedom from repercussions, but more importantly, freedom from being made to feel sad because they said something that upset someone.

They want us to remind them that they are, in fact, very nice, good boys, just like they've been told all along.

They're not racist because they don't *feel* racist. They're not homophobic because they don't feel it.

We're social creatures and more than that, we're social creatures who have lossy memory storage and we often rely on others to give us enough information that we can piece the narratives of our lives back together. This isn't a 'feels over reals' thing, this is just a fact that our brains cannot store all the data we take in. We HAVE to tell stories, that's how our compression algorithm works!

All of this comes together to define our reality. I don't see this as any less real than anyone else, because we're all playing by the same rules here (for the most part... I'm aware that some conditions can complicate things).

What I'm getting at is... I can hold the idea that gender is both fake in the sense that it's just... a set of things we all agreed are 'man' or 'woman' but also that it is real and has a real impact on our lives and our well-being.

What sucks is that I'm the sort of visual person that can say things like, "Gender is the way we exist in and move through a sexed culture" and like, I have a visual idea of what that means in my mind but how do I even convey something like that.

Gender isn't fake and sex is real, that's just not how any of this works. Gender emerges out of the way that groups of people sought to control reproduction, but that doesn't mean it starts and ends with reproduction, nor does it mean that it exists in the same manner for all people at all times.

I don't have any particular emotional attachment to the building, but it's always sad whenever art is destroyed.

I'm sure everyone knows about them, but here's a reminder that harvest mice exist.
