Room 4:3, a project by the same people behind Boiler Room (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boiler_Room_(music_project)) is always sharing some interesting content, for free but also for a limited time.

Right now they have this presentations from the most famous faces of the wildly chaotic and experimental japanese noise scene. Merzbow, Masonna, Hijokaidan, everyone is here.

Noise, personally, I find quite captivating.

Watch here (you'll need to make an account I think): https://fourthree.boilerroom.tv/playlist/legends-japanese-noise

    1. The Best Linux Distributions for 2018
from Linux.com | The source for Linux information
It’s a new year and the landscape of possibility is limitless for Linux. Whereas 2017 brought about some big changes to a number of Linux distributions, I believe 2018 will bring serious stability and market share growth—for both the server and the desktop.

"Smart Phone Feature Request: Guest Mode" in this article the good people in CrimethInc. make a case for what they call "Guest Mode" for smartphones, rallying for teams and companies behind mobile OSes to come with this rather interesting and particular solution to a real problem and added layer of security and privacy.

I think it would be interesting to see this in @Purism #Librem5.

"Want To Guarantee Net Neutrality? Join Peer-To-Peer, Community-Run Internet" an article published on FastCompany on how public, open and community-driven mesh networks are setting themselves as alternatives to big ISP corporations.

"In some locations, including large parts of Spain, this type of network is already operational. The Spanish Guifi network has more than 30,000 active nodes."

"We have abandoned every principle of the free and open Internet: The internet we left behind" article published on The Verge regarding the current state of the Internet.

"...a startup will make it through... to become an independent public company... now-centralized internet means you’ll have a new set of intermediaries to deal with, relying on Apple’s App Store, Google’s search rankings, and Amazon’s server farms..."

The Intercept presents Haven, an app created with the insight of Edward Snowden to protect people from "evil maid" attacks.

The app, open-source and currently Beta, is a collaboration between #Snowden (through the FPF) and #GuardianProject. It can be obtained from the Play Store and #FDroid.

The app, installed on a smartphone, records sound, movement and video while sending notifications another phone.

A report made by Quartz has brought to light the fact that Google collects Android users’ locations even when location services and GPS are disabled, even with the SIM out of the phone and factory-reseted.

This only shows the need for a truly open option when it comes to mobile systems that respect your privacy, like the Librem 5 project from @Purism supported by @matrix, @gnome, @kde, @nextcloud and @monero

November 1st marks the anniversary of the Spanish anarcho-syndicalist CNT.

The Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (National Confederation of Work) was born on November 1st of 1910 after a regional anarchist union from Catalunya decided to form a national group that would face the, then Marxist socialist, UGT.

After 107 years, the CNT is still going and active for the rights of all workers.

You can read some of their history here: https://libcom.org/history/cnt-spanish-revolution-jos%C3%A9-peirats

The good people of #FDroid have updated the app and I must say it is looking better than ever.

A munch needed visual upgrade welcomes the application to the 1.0 release.

F-Droid is an awesome open-source repository of #FLOSS applications for #Android devices. You can check them out here: https://f-droid.org/

The @gnome Foundation today has officially provided their endorsement and support of Purism’s efforts to build the privacy-focused and first truly GNU+Linux Librem 5 smartphone. Just week after KDE's own announcement.

The campaign is still on having passed the milestone of over $500k, but far from the goal of $1.5m, and lets remember that this is an all-or-nothing deal.
