@mlcdf @jessiscah24 It's a known issue. Federation was broken for a few days, but it should be working again within a few hours. https://github.com/tootcafe/discussions/issues/32
You can check my toots from today to get up to speed. 😊

Sorry folks, this issue is hairier than it appeared at first glance. Unfortunately I'm at work so won't be able to look at it until later this evening.
If anyone has some Ruby skillz and wants to take a look, I'd be much obliged. 🙇

@peter "Just build for Chrome" means throwing away the whole benefit of the web over native platforms: open standards, interoperability, backwards compatibility…
The way I like to think of it is that making your site work in multiple browsers is the tax you pay to ensure the long-term health of the web platform.
@anthracite Heh, that might be necessary. 😊 I don't want this guy editing the Wikipedia article on fluoride.
🔥🚀🔥 HOOOTTTT
LG just open sourced #webOS. It is the first release of a #FOSS webOS since 2012, and you can run it on a #RaspberryPi 3.
http://webosose.org
They did it to foster the #startup scene in Korea:
http://www.lgnewsroom.com/2018/03/webos-enters-next-phase-as-global-platform-under-lgs-stewardship/
There is a new framework for it which is not #EnyoJS anymore 😭 but looks quite great, it is #React based, called #EnactJS
Highlights: 👉 #QT and #QML for native stuff
👉 services using #NodeJS
👉 #Chromium as a runtime for apps
@soapdog Whoa, webOS. That's a blast from the past!
@baldur I like to think of search engine bots as an old-ish funky proxy browser. Sorta like how Opera Mini runs JS on the server side for 5 seconds and then bails out. (And using the Presto engine, no less!)
@baldur Bing does run some JavaScript (and DuckDuckGo is built on the Bing API), but it's not always the same as what a modern browser will run. Hence the guidelines say not to bury content in JS: https://www.bing.com/webmaster/help/webmaster-guidelines-30fba23a
Same with Googlebot, there are interop issues with JavaScript. E.g. like how Googlebot's JS Math.random() function is deterministic: http://www.tomanthony.co.uk/blog/googlebot-javascript-random/
“Do Search Engines speak JavaScript?”
http://www.phpied.com/do-search-engines-speak-javascript/
The answer is for the most part, no. Making a JS-only page is a good way to only _reliably_ get indexed by Google.

Treatment of free labor from Wikipedia seems similar to treatment of free labor from OSS.
"Literally" literally means "figuratively," according to the dictionary (whether Merriam Webster or OED).
Dictionaries also report how words are used and how meanings change over time.

Reminder: please keep an eye out for Mastodon newbies - e.g. on the introduction/introductions hashtags - and give them a fave/boost/friendly reply to welcome them. Thanks! 👍 #FriendlyFediverse
@sivy Yup! :) You can always check the version here (scroll to bottom): https://toot.cafe/about/more
@wanderview No objections I can think of. :) Especially since Mastodon lists aren't public, it may make sense.

@wanderview There are a few browser folks mentioned in this thread: https://mastodon.social/@Gargron/99295468107807218
Does anyone have a good list of web platform (engine or spec) folks on Mastodon?
#HackOnMDN day 2 has kicked off with lightning talks. First we heard from Dennis Schubert about http://WebCompat.com and how Smooshgate all started with this bug report about a weather website: https://webcompat.com/issues/15121 https://toot.cafe/media/7pqlP6GDItMayDpGR6E
@vahnj Hmmm actually on second thought let's just keep things as-is. It's a short script, and adding a GitHub repo means it lives in 3 places instead of 2. Also I have enough GitHub repos, don't want to overcommit on supporting this thing. 🙃
Forks are great! Let's have forks. 😊
