i'm invited to stream for a local cafe - I love those guys, LGBT activists, real progressive electronic music, soc-analytical round tables, etc - but they want me to stream a DJset or live electronic performance (if I want) to facebook. It really got me thinking.

We need a network of nodes with PeerTube 3.0 (they announced streaming support, but it's not happening anytime soon), or something like Open Streaming Platform (FLOSS streaming server) https://openstreamingplatform.com/

Because floss world is a huge ecosystem where freedom is at the core of things, it is possible to build (or enter) islands and continents of no shittyness. Many floss projects adopting Codes of Conduct in the last years are already improving stuff, creating spaces safe for vulnerable and deprivileged. Don't let some old senseless pricks destroy possibilities of you enjoying solidarity, inclusiveness & communities that care. Folk like that already exist, let's move on, reclaim the liberté.

honestly, it's hard to go from google calendar to nextcloud calendar. anyone knows smooth online floss (self-hosted?) calendar one could use with caldav/nextcloud?

I have solved the problem of remote stream injection - there's an option in #IceCast called <fallback> stream which is a secondary stream to which the listener is 'moved' when primary stream drops. <fallback-override> then allows to move the listener back to primary stream when it appears again. To listener it appears as a single audio stream. This is perfect for my case tomorrow where I will be streaming from the club to my OBS in the studio when I won't be there.

Icecast is a streaming media (audio/video) server which currently supports Ogg (Vorbis and Theora), Opus, WebM and MP3 streams.
It can be used to create an Internet radio station or a privately running jukebox and many things in between.

Darkice is a simple command-line streamer that takes audio input from jack or alsa input and streams it in Ogg Vorbis to icecast server.

Both are easy to install on Debian via apt (icecast2 & darkice)

If you are a musician or sound artist and you urgently need 'native' support for audio uploads on mastodon, you can (and please do!) vote (thumbs up) or ideally write a short comment on the issue on github: "Allow users to post audio files #4827"

It looks like support is almost there but still not really implemented. Votes for this can raise the priority of this much needed feature.
