I think I'd enjoy living in the city a lot more if people would drop the weird "urban solitude" thing where you're supposed to pretend you aren't aware of each other's existence.
It feels so weird to walk by someone on the street, say "good morning" and watch them stare directly forward and pretend they're alone on the sidewalk.
Humans are weird.
Hey, @falgsc have you given SSB a try? I think you might love the left ambiance there too, lots of solarpunks and ancoms. :3
@gc According to https://social.coop/bylaws you become a full member 42 days after the date when you first got your Mastodon account.
There aren't different classes of members on #SocialCoop. Every member regardless of financial status is a part owner of the platform, and can participated in governance, etc.
Of course it is encouraged to contribute if/when/as much as you can, but if you can't that's ok, and the cost of your membership is basically being subsidised by those who do.
@christianbundy @gc probably propose what you want to do in the tech WG then. I'd be the one changing the DNS at the moment
You can find the agenda and notes for today's discussion of @mayel's proposal here.

Why do we talk about Russian oligarchs but not American oligarchs? Honest question.
@gc @mayel @mattcropp If you want to get abstract about it, there are just 3 kinds of co-ops. 1) people combine their economic power to manage a shared expense, through purchasing goods or maintaining an asset; 2) through collective marketing of their individual production of goods or services; 3) through collective production of goods or services for sale to 3rd parties. Whether they hire managers to operate that enterprise is a separate question.
Friends -- I would like to collect best practices regarding diversity and equity in organizations like this one. Know any good examples? Have suggestions?
@ike haha
@gc @mattcropp I was mostly joking, but I guess it could fit. Are there housing co-ops that host non contributing guests?
what kind of co-op is social.coop?
a consumer co-op?
a worker co-op?
a housing co-op?
@gc virtual housing :D

> For we each of us deserve everything, every luxury that was ever piled in the tombs of the dead kings, and we each of us deserve nothing, not a mouthful of bread in hunger. Have we not eaten while another starved? Will you punish us for that? Will you reward us for the virtue of starving while others ate? No man earns punishment, no man earns reward. Free your mind of the idea of deserving, the idea of earning, and you will begin to be able to think.

@gc funny I think it's the first it has been brought up in over a year. Impressive!
"#SocialCapital is really just the relationships and trust we have but it’s also a type of #currency that we can give and gain according to certain rules that we’ve largely intuited or aggressively been forced to learn. This social capital as currency can then aggregate around #CultsOfPersonality, creating the recipe for dominance and #coercion."
