They say that 1% of the users of a website with user-generated content actually create the content, 9% edit that content and 90% are lurkers.

I'm pretty sure I'm among the 1% here in the Fediverse. I can't join small Mastodon servers. I just dominate the local timeline.

Every time I'm confronted with modern pop music, my age shows. It's the same old stuff in a new wrapper. Sometimes they blend several old things, and the result is blandness, but if you're a teenager (or just have low standards), you probably can't tell where it all came from, and it sounds new and interesting to you.

I watched all the numbers in the Eurovision Song Contest including the Madonna number near the end. Hers was actually the worst of the evening. She couldn't sing in tune. I think she's overdue for retirement.

I gave every song a score. None of them got a 5 out of 5, so I had no particular favourite, but I thought Australia's entry was the most creative in terms of the stage show, so I gave them a vote.

@evelynyap Which is to say that it's probably healthy to be more optimistic about these things than I am...

@evelynyap Self-help books suffer from survival bias, which is the logical error of concentrating on the people or things that made it past some selection process and overlooking those that did not, typically because of their lack of visibility.

People who write self-help books tend to be the ones who actually succeeded. They could be, and probably are a tiny successful fraction among the people who try to improve themselves.

Of course, you won't change anything unless you try...
