People of color have done more for the english language than anyone else, no english writer is as important to the language than those who are people of color. The expansion, cultural connotation, association, word play, slang, creation of new words and phrases, restructuring of sentences, fragments etc. are essentially acts of decolonizing the primary language we use. By attacking the rigidity, and strict structural formulae that white scholars and professors have been injecting into our societal frameworks as well as deconstructing the blockades they effectively built in our minds to stifle creativity through the "correct ways to speak/write" and dismantling the harsh "rules and laws" has evolved the english language at such an incredible rate.

The idea and propagation of "the western world" or "western society" is a racist dogwhistle used by white supremacists who are literally gaslighting all of human history.

My background (other than political organizing) is in Art, Art History, and History. The idea that the formation of civilization and the monumental achievements and inventions as "white" is factually incorrect. The cradle of civilization was with the advent of agriculture was in the fertile crescent where ancient mesopotamia/Sumerian people were located is a region in modern day Iraq/Syria/Turkey.
Something else that also needs to be pointed out is the concept of the "Dark Ages" in European society. Most of the "Dark Ages" were NOT dark ages for cultures in the middle east/africa/asia where inventions and strides in science/art/mathematics which were introduced into white european society that greatly improved peoples lives when it came to agriculture, medicine, design, etc.

The idea that "Western civilization" is somehow tied to "whiteness" is intentional in removing people of color from our role in history. The concept of race based on skin tones wasn't an idea in roman times. That's why Septimius Serverus wasn't seen by his people as a "black african emperor married to a brown syrian woman" but just naturally seen as a "Roman Emperor". Thinking of greek/roman culture as a white society is just factually incorrect, there were tons of people of color who were just as important and as much of the society as those with light skin. There's also the failure to realize that the Roman Empire would conquer areas and then the people were seen to be just as much part of "roman" society as others, many african and "middle eastern" traditions, arts, music, etc. were combined with those of rome/greek traditions. Looking at this map it's hard to think that all the people in the confines of the roman empire were somehow white?

Over the course of 33 years Mallinckrodt, a subsidary of Medtronic, a global multi-billion dollar medical device company, dumped 12 metric tons of mercury into the Penobscot river, (a river sacred to my peoples, and the largest river in the state) and over 9 tons of said mercury still remains in the river. Fish, birds, lobster, eel, and people throughout the system and region are contaminated with mercury, levels among birds nesting and feeding along the river are among the highest found anywhere in the world, consumption of fish and birds along this portion of river could cause serious harm. This is a river in which the Penobscot people are supposed to have "sustainable fishing rights" due to our treaty. The state still maintains they are upholding that, though we can't eat more than a fish a month without risking illness. There has been a court battle against Mallinckrodt since 2000, they have been found responsible, and late this year the courts will review appropriate cleanup.
