Practice IS how you’ll improve your art. There really isn’t any other way. It just needn’t come at the expense of your emotional well-being. Resting, being in nature, experiencing totally different kinds of art are all great too.

Sometimes I sew to learn, stretch, and grow. Sometimes I do it to self-soothe. Sometimes I nap or walk or read or play video games instead.

Seeing a couple people post about #inktober and I’ll throw in my two cents about such events.

I love finding ways to challenge myself to do things I haven’t done before.

I do better with breaks.

I do better with repetition a few times.

Daily things don’t fit everyone, including me. There’s no particular merit to it! I’d recc just following up on things you find interesting or challenging. Stretching and forgiving yourself.

You’re not a brand. You don’t owe people a WAY of doing art.

A story from tonight’s guild—Sally...this crazy grandma, Sally. Using crazy here admiringly. She. She quilted a dang pretty quilt. But she used gray thread to quilt the brown borders.

Then Sally entered it in a show. And she thought 🤔 —gray thread, brown fabric. Bad choice.

So, using ??? Sally...wild and crazy Sally...painstakingly colored in every stitch of the gray thread. She colored it brown.

Sally won a blue ribbon.

Worf: it is tradition to drink pumpkin spice at the turn of the season

I cannot affirm this enough. If you can do good, do so without causing yourself the anxiety and the other person the stress/shame of trying to determine if they're "worthy" or "honest." Do it with an open heart and you'll be joyful. Most aren't scamming and will be relieved. Some are, and that's on them.

Evaluate charitable orgs, not people.

It’s a hot hot hot hot day in parts of North America. If you’re like me, your only access to cooling at home is something like a struggling window unit.

Libraries can be cooling stations if you can get to one. And they mostly won’t kick you out. They’re a place you can be and not buy anything. Keep safe if you can. 💜💜💜💜

Really disappointed to see that construction is being taken up again on Mauna Kea in Hawaii, though activists are blocking it.

Anyone who suggests that science is over its colonizing past is kidding themselves. You'll see tons of people arguing that science > "superstition" to justify taking over sacred land as though it's about who has more truth, not colonialism.
