Is there a recommended way to block access to things like https://social.heckin.tech/INSTALL? I don't want to just delete them and it's all tracked in Git anyway so they will show back up when I pull. Think .htaccess is the best way?

Honestly fuck Ruby. Out of the box, you have to use root to install gems apparently. And then the permissions are wrong so that only root can run them. How fucking hard is it to get this right? It's been like this for years, having to manually unfuck stuff every time I'm forced to deal with Ruby. /rant

Is there an #opensource #alternative to Pocket that people use? I've used Pinboard in the past and it was ok as far as feeling like I wasn't being sold to advertisers, but it's not an open system.

!postactiv FWIW, here's a (potentially useful?) infographic from the site the seems to capture the gist of the whole thing. https://social.heckin.tech/attachment/391831 #GDPR

Based on my initial reading of the #GDPR https://www.itgovernance.co.uk/data-protection-dpa-and-eu-data-protection-regulation it seems like the only potential concern for any !postactiv instance admins is with IPs in web logs being retained. It seems like this stuff applies even if your instance is outside of EU but has EU users.

Are there any GDPR concerns for running !postactiv instances?

!postactiv Does anyone know how to get this to work? My feed is pretty full of replies to people I don't follow. Is there something I need to configure on the server? https://social.heckin.tech/attachment/165945

!postactiv Re: StoreRemoteMedia. From reading the source it appears I should manually cleanup these files since that would introduce some DB inconsistency. Is there a recommended way to clean these up? http://gitea.postactiv.com/postActiv/postActiv/src/master/modules/StoreRemoteMedia

What are some good/recommended plugins I should be using for !postactiv? Other pA instances seem to have some UI/UX differences but I can't tell what plugins are being used to accomplish this.

Since my !postactiv instance is basically single-user, my "Whole Known Network" seems to be identical to my Timeline. When I was on Mastodon (not trying to compare!) I used the Whole Known Network to help find other people to follow. Is there a way to sort of replicate that behavior in pA?
