I'm really excited about all the activity in the federated, self-hosted space. However, I feel like there's still a missing piece around identity. I don't want to have to create a new user every time I want to use someone elses shiny new federated event sharing application or what have you.
There don't seem to be any great self hosted OpenID providers out there and OpenID only solves the authentication part anyway. Maybe I've missed some obvious solutions?

i dont know where i first heard it, but i really like the term social interaction networks rather than social media. take back the language. we're aren't media and relationship building isn't marketing.

hmm after logging in to the pocket casts service the app seems much less unhappy. maybe i wont have to abandon software i paid for afterall. (but in reality i should switch to a foss client)

if antenna pod had some ability to group podcasts arbitrarily and change the number of rows and columns on the subscriptions page, id say its better than pocket casts.

you seem to be describing nomadic identity. being able to use one account to log into all services, and i believe this is a very important building block currently missing from the internet at large. i dont know if activity pub will be trying to solve that problem though. the only protocol i know that does this is Zot from hubzilla.
