languages are a poor substitute for the telepathic powers that some people have ;-)
(my favorite bit in Stephen King's Dreamcatcher was the power to send images telepathically, something I often miss in real life; alas, the movie left that completely out, to my great disappointment) -

in brazil, delivery companies always collect signatures as proof of delivery. it's unconsciounable to me that someone would just relinquish responsibility over goods they're in charge of delivering -

I was kidding, but we shouldn't underestimate the power of hatred as a motivator. a lot of the GNU replacement software that goes in Alpine was developed out of hatred, not specifically towards GNU, but as a reaction to GNU and to the fact that GNU was the operating system that Torvalds chose to run on top of the kernel he wrote, and that made GNU+Linux software, cooperation and competition the driving forces for much of what the software freedom communities accomplished afterwards. some perceptions may vary depending on one's alignment and role in that history, and counterfactuals are not good as evidence, but even if either or both could have made it by itself, together they made quite a hit, and it's not viable or sensible to try to find which one of the two had a higher impact or can lay larger claims of merit, any more than trying to figure out whether it's the hydrogen or the oxygen that propels the rocket: the power comes, and came, from combining them -

I've been maintaining an APT repository for Linux-libre since September 2011: https://jxself.org/linux-libre/
Since lxo announced plans to stop maintaining the Freed-ora RPM repository I've now an RPM repository too: https://rpmfreedom.org/
It works on Fedora, CentOS, RHEL and its derivatives.

the "git protocol itself" encompasses email, and that's quite apparent in the tooling developed early on to send and apply patches transmitted by email. IMHO the purported exclusion of email workflows is an artificial separation that ignores, if not attempts to rewrite, its actual history -

all of the GNU replacements in Alpine owe to GNU in that they were developed because of GNU ;-P
one could say they're Not-GNU in the same way that GNU's Not-Unix -

the term 'pull request' comes from emails that requested a project committer to git pull from a named repo and ref -

it's weird how companies lobby the US government all the time for all sorts of purposes, and then get what they wish, but then some people try to defend the notion that somehow there's nothing the companies could do about this sort of issue -
