an idea: every [month], we pick a general purpose instance and agree to recommend people to _that one_ when an instance picker would be too overwhelming. that way, we get the benefits of easy-to-sign-up, but don't swamp that one mastodon.social

#introductions #welcome #newpeople you have not joined "mastodon" today. you have joined a mastodon instance, but you're on an entire federated network including nodes running mastodon, pleroma, GNU/Social, and more.

i prefer to use that terminology to encourage cooperation between all our lovely fediverse networks.

for example:

"new to the fediverse, mastodon [if i'm talking about my frontend for example] is pretty sweet"

"anyone else on the fediverse straight" [the answer is no]

sometimes i love a song so much that i just want to melt its essence into something i can consume and make a part of me
