Judging by the dismal performance of the pool of undergraduates that I'm trying to recruit developer trainees from, they don't actually teach computer programming in computer science courses.

I had one candidate fail to answer what the output of the following program is:

I don't know why I bother to argue with people. In the vast majority of cases, it just results in hostility, no matter how civil I attempt to keep the tone. In a small number of cases, an interesting exchange results, in which both sides learn something new. I would love to be surrounded by people with that kind of mindset.

@Syl Ah, but your idea of progress is biased by your Western upbringing. Also, the very idea of relentless progress is a Western idea. Not all societies value progress. In some societies, innovation is just a random event, and it may or may not be adopted by the rest of that society. We are extremely arrogant about this in the West and it pisses everybody else off. We think we are so perfect and good and can teach the world what's best for it. Such hubris.
