without profit motive, no need to entice people to buy what they dont need, so no adverts. no black friday sales. instead of requiring consumers to walk the aisles, workers (or robots) could get things from stockroom. stores could be placed around the city for easy pickup or home delivery. no need for flashy, wasteful packaging to attract consumers attention. "shoplifting" becomes irrelevant, so no security cameras. etc.

no one asked, but here is a mental tool i use lately to help me envision what #socialism might be like:

1. pick some aspect of modern society

2. identify various ways it is affected by the profit motive

3. imagine how it would be different if the goal was the wellbeing of the people, instead of the profit of capitalists

4. identify related aspects of society that would be affected by those changes, and repeat

it is really good story.
i borrowed paper copy from my local #library for thematic authenticity.
it is over 20 years old copy.
the old book smell makes me sleepy.
