Not sure I get the permissions in Nougat... a bunch of the apps I installed need network access, but when installing it listed no special permissions needed. Is network access not considered a special permission anymore, it's just a given? So far Ultrasonic has been the only one to prompt for any extra permissions, and it was for read/write the SD card.

Ultrasonic so I can stream my music from funkwhale.

I'll stick with Trebuchet as the launcher for now as it seems alright, and OpenLauncher, although I like it, hasn't been updated for a while.

Going to try DuckDuckGo browser for web browser rather than Firefox for now.

Next up AnySoftKeyboard because I'm struggling a little with this AOSP one, and AnySoft's keyboard splitter thingy is really handy on a tablet.

Next up tusky so I can reply to people on mastodon.

@pauloppenheim hmm it was easy for me, the process must have changed. Just downloaded apk and opened, was prompted if I wanted to trust unknown sources, then it installed.

Next app: indigenous for android to do me #indieweb posting. Probably won't post that much from the tablet, but good to have it available. Its not on fdroid but swentel publishes the apks on github.

Finally got Lineage installed on my old tablet. It wasn't that straightforward, but huge kudos to the whole community of peeps (developers, forum posters, documentors) that make it possible at all.

I know corvids are smart, and I respect them for that, I really do, but they're also really fucking noisy

@bortzmeyer It's always remarkably slow to pick up DNS changes. They seem to cache for a very long time.

I finished Perdido Street Station. It was fantastically written and a genuine page turner. Also relentlessly, unremittingly grim.

Now I'm reading Pride and Prejudice so I don't fall into a depression.
