@sheridans@twitter.com Yes, there has been analysis. There are clear winners, like http://Riot.im (@matrixdotorg@twitter.com), but Zoom came out poorly due to the amount of data gathering to third-party services.
So we haven't yelling about it yet, but poljar has been making good progress on an official #rust Matrix SDK over at https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-rust-sdk - and thanks to incorporating olm-rs from jhaye in the Fractal community, it just decrypted its first ever E2EE msg!! Slack and Discord have been the golden chat apps for a while, but neither is free from controversy. In their place, our community recommends @mewe@twitter.com, @signalapp@twitter.com, @matrixdotorg@twitter.com, and @RiotChat@twitter.com. ๐ฏ
Apologies for the recent perf problems on the http://matrix.org homeserver thanks to new traffic. However as of 21:30 GMT we've found a new optimisation which has got us back some headroom, and meanwhile sharding work is progressing well. Also, please run your own servers!
@pete perfect timing - we're just merging stuff to make it way easier to self-host jitsi. https://github.com/vector-im/riot-web/pull/12780 and a few bugfix PRs are merging in the coming hours and will be available on riot.im/develop
Successfully using entirely self-hosted+federated Riot/Matrix/Jitsi/Etherpad/PeerTube to host lectures, teleconference with students, answer questions in chat, and collaboratively edit their code. Write-up is incoming. Once I take a nap.
People are realizing that their new "work from home" venture capitalist tools are not privacy friendly.
In my remote work guide, I've included ethical alternatives to Slack, Zoom etc. These are @matrixdotorg@twitter.com @RiotChat@twitter.com @jitsinews@twitter.com @taigaio@twitter.com @basecamp@twitter.com ๐
The http://matrix.org homeserver is suffering problems beyond the extreme overload we've seen over the last week; we're on the case (and meanwhile work on fundamentally fixing performance issues is progressing well). Apologies for the downtime.
Allez, un grand bravo ร @tchap_dinum@twitter.com, vous assurez un max. C'est vraiment sympa d'avoir un moyen de chat sรฉcurisรฉ entre agents publics dans les conditions actuelles. ๐๐๐
