the days of usenet, irc, the web...even email (w PGP)...were amazing. centralizing discovery and identity into corporations really damaged the internet.
I realize I'm partially to blame, and regret it.

Just a sneak peak at some cool stuff happening with Rocket.Chat.
Rocket.Chat <-> Matrix federation
@OnDeck@twitter.com @kdecommunity@twitter.com @NeoChatKDE@twitter.com If you missed this week's episode of Open Tech Will Save Us focused on analytics and privacy, you can find a recording on YouTube to get a hopefully balanced image of analytics and user trust with @ExodusPrivacy@twitter.com, @e_mydata@twitter.com

🗞️ TWIM is out!
Matrix casually made its way to the Steam @OnDeck@twitter.com. It's also neatly integrated in @kdecommunity@twitter.com's KRunner via @NeoChatKDE@twitter.com, and the multi-purpose bridge hookshot is easier to use than ever.
And much (much!) more in #thisweekinmatrix!

EU to Facebook, Apple, Signal, Telegram, etc.: Open your APIs and play nice with others, or GTFO.
If this sticks it will be a massive win for an open internet.

Matrix Support
Support for the popular chat protocol: Matrix, is coming to 102. While this has existed behind a pref in a beta state in 91, it will finally be usable out-of-the-box in this release. Updates to chat for a better user experience will be in this release as well.

Matrix's business model eschews value maximization - the governance is run by a nonprofit with an unpaid board. The for profit can't alter the governance org.

Open APIs are an easy answer but have limitations: an Open Standard is the only way to deploy the real power of interop!
