It's a scary pile of technologies: The Neovim plugin "vim-tidal" uses the Haskell library TidalCycles to talk to the sample playback engine SuperDirt, which is implemented in the audio programming language SuperCollider, which sends samples to the audio daemon JACK. @_@
Started playing with the music live coding environment TidalCycles yesterday, and I'm already deeply in love! <3 It's powerful! It's concise! It's Haskell!
Discovered "13 Minutes to the Moon" yesterday, a BBC podcast telling the story of the Apollo 11 mission, up to the final 13 minutes of the descent to the moon's surface. Music by Hans Zimmer! Very well produced, highly recommended! https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w13xttx2/episodes/downloads
Hey! :) The Recurse Center is "funding Fellowships of up to $10,000 for women, trans, and non-binary people to work on programming projects, research, and art at RC this fall.
Apply by July 22nd and start August 12th or September 23rd."
This is an incredible opportunity – if you want to be part of a diverse, kind programming community, and spend three months focusing on projects close to your heart, this is your chance! Happy to answer any questions you might have! \o/
For communication within the RC community, the open source software https://zulipchat.com is playing a central role. I love it! It's a bit like Slack, but you attach a short "topic" to each message, similar to an email subject: https://zulipchat.com/why-zulip/
https://openscore.cc is a project that wants to liberate sheet music from copyright and from paper! They invite and coordinate volunteers to transcribe public domain scans from https://imslp.org using https://musescore.org. Should be a great learning experience! 🎼
I have a reservation for two 4-person dorm rooms in the A&O hostel near Leipzig main station from 26th–31st this month, which I don't need, for 428 EUR/room. Any takers? #35c3
